We use SAP Data Intelligence to build data pipelines to streamline the processes of data cleaning and transformation which further helps to identify key insights and create dashboards. It helps us to easy consolidate data from varied sources and automate data processes which further helps us to easy deploy ML models in order to get data-driven solutions for specific usecases.
  • Automate workflows
  • Deploy Machine Learning Models
  • Data Visualization
  • Data Management and Monitoring
  • Faced issues while testing our lower environments with new patches
  • Installations process is quite complex, chances of mistakes are high
  • Hard to perform operations on semi structured data
  • Performance gets slow while handling large datasets
It is well suited to augment data from multiple resources (including APIs) and automate workflows. Dashboard helps in easy analyse and monitoring the key KPIs. However, advance visualization features are missing.
Further, deploying ML models with ease is a plus. Also, its multiple language support ( Python, R etc) helps user to easy write code.

This SAP's Data Intelligence software tool is used for the implementation of for data integration (based on ETL and ELT processes) with defined scope of functionalities and capabilities provided. Moreover, it provides great integration with other SAP products such as SAP 4HANA. We utilize it in conjunction with AWS and Microsoft Azure tools.
  • Good integration and data migration functionalities (from one DB cluster to another)
  • provision and support of different level of data access (tabular format level, ETL layer level, ODP level)
  • Reasonable pricing (pay-as-you-use strategy, without overhead cost implemented)
  • High entry level of usage - for some users like me it is hard to get things performed without referring to the tech support and their documentation
  • the management and control of the source code imposes the difficulties in terms of ease of usage - with complex projects this issue is critical and becomes a bottleneck for the further development processes implemented
  • as easy it is to manipulate and perform operations on tabular data, as hard it is to work with non-relational database entities such as semi-structured documents and files
In our projects we implement SAP Data intelligence software tool for the development and implementation of ETL pipelines, as well as currently migrating the Oracle database cluster to Postgre with the help of this tool. Moreover, as we are also using SAP 4HANA tool, it is easy for us to integrate already in use processes with this new data intelligence platform. Also, it provides good functionality in the integration processes with cloud services such as AWS and Microsoft Azure.

We use SAP Data Intelligence to centralize all of our website/ecomm metrics and data. It is excellent for analyzing and creating dashboards for our BUs to digest and understand the data. The tight integration with the Office suite makes it possible to export dashboards to Powerpoint Presentation, as well as PDFs (which are especially useful for sharing date)
  • Integrates well with 3rd party tools
  • Allows direct manipulation of external databases
  • Allows synthesis and consolidation of data sources
  • The tool can become slow when dealing with large datasets
  • The tool can be overwhelming to learn because of its breadth of features and options
  • Pricing can be tricky for multiple licenses (at least for us)
SAP Data Intelligence is excellent for sharing data visualizations and data 'stories' externally. Our BU (Business Units) love the visual clarity of the dashboards.

When datasets are extremely large, SAP Data Intelligence can still be used, but it should be noted that it can become very slow and more difficult to use.

SAP Data Intelligence validation on NetApp storage technology in compination with RedHat OpenShift and SUESE Rancher Kubernetes Cluster. Validation was done for all NetApp solutions which are supported from NetApp Trident and are able to provide iSCSI LUNs. Goal of the validation has been, to enable NetApp customers a seamless usage of NetApp storage for mixed SAP workloads.
  • It runs in Kubernetes
  • Easy deployment with Installer also running in Kubernetes
  • Integration with S/3 compatible object storage on-prem and in public cloud
  • In case of failures, identifying the errors in the Kubernetes cluster is a mess
  • The certificate handling could be made easier to run SAP Data Intelligence with self signed certificates for non-prod environments
I just used Data Intelligence from in infrastructure point of view to validate NetApp storage for SAP Data Intelligence. Therefore I run only test scenarios which need to be run, to pass the SAP Data Intelligence validation. The scenarios need for passing the validation are just used to validate that the underlying infrastructure is fulfilling the SAP requirements.

ETL is the primary focus. Connections and validations between all sources of information. When it comes to large data management, SAP is a must-have. We were able to cut down on processing time and increase the output of our data team as a result.
  • Additionally, you have the option of exporting your filtered data to Excel for additional analysis.
  • AP As far as software goes, it's well-known and rock-solid.
  • Has both on-premise and private cloud deployment options.
  • Only a few posts a month.
  • SAP offers free trials for other services, such as SAC, but not for SAP Data Intelligence, which does not have a free tier.
  • Occasionally, it appears to be older software.
It is possible to decrease the integration between SAP ERP and the GUI system by using SAP DI. A wide spectrum of integration and a dramatic improvement in the business will be achieved.

SAP Data Intelligence helps us in providing nice data analytics with our data. Usually, we have extracted the data from multiple sources. We required day-to-day data analytics for our customers. This saves a lot of time and effort in providing the right and efficient data analytics and visualization of our data with minimal effort.
  • Nice and centralized dashboard for monitoring the data and KPI's.
  • The breadth of services provided.
  • The consulting team provides the right approach of your data and how it is used for better data analytics.
  • Overall product functionalities and product roadmap.
  • Customer service and support.
  • Improvement in efficiency to upload large volume of data.
  • Addition of advanced visualizations such as charts, graphs, etc.
  • Centralized and ad-hoc reports shall be improved.
  • Data integration with other new and advanced source connectors shall be improved.
SAP Data Intelligence is best suited if you are using other SAP enterprise applications. It is one of the powerful BI solutions that provide powerful reports in a few clicks. The UI is brilliant and easy to use and any person with initial training can use this solution for enterprise use. However, it is less appropriate when you have a large amount of data as this takes a lot of time to upload into the system. Also, the inbuilt workflow needs improvements on a regular basis. User feedback plays an important role in improving the BI solution. The reports shall have a provision for customization as per the client's requirements.

I started using SAP Data Intelligence at Redflex before joining Verra Mobility to integrate data, manage company information and catalog data in real-life in a single centralized cloud solution. At Verra Mobility, we use SAP Data Intelligence on few selected company departments mainly, corporate, IT and Engineering.
  • Data orchestration enhanced by SAP Data Intelligence enables to get high data value and analytics.
  • Improved innovation by utilizing machine learning to transform data from prototype to deployment.
  • Connect, integrate, and orchestrate data from multiple cloud and on-premises applications.
  • Data transfer speed tends to be slow when there is poor internet connection since SAP Data Intelligence don’t synchronize data while offline. However, this is not vendor fault, that’s why we have implemented robust wireless technology internet connection in our organization.
In the two organizations that I have used SAP Data Intelligence, it has been effective in managing data operations. SAP Data Intelligence is the most robust data integration and management solution that I have ever come across. I would highly recommend this service to all prospects that are looking to create, execute and reuse data models at ease.

We are an early adopter of [SAP] Data Intelligence (DI), for which we are pioneering use cases with SAP as a partner company. Our broad goals are to increase transparency and reduce risk for renewable energy investors. Specifically with with DI we can set up real time monitoring pipelines using Machine Learning models that continuously compare historic power generation asset performance with their current performance. This provides early under performance warnings to the owner/investor so they can take action to avoid excessive costs due to mechanical failures or other equipment down times.
  • It integrates well with our current ecosystem of SAP products, like HANA.
  • It provides end-to-end machine learning operations, with tools for the complete model life cycle.
  • It has a simple user interface for novice users, with complex tools also available for power users.
  • It builds on SAP Data Hub, providing all the ETL functions of that tool with additional machine learning functionality.
  • It can run in the cloud, no on-premise software management needed.
  • Many programming languages are supported, it provides a sandbox environment for the user to develop in whichever style they prefer.
  • SAP is very actively developing and improving it.
  • The administration tools are still in development, currently SAP must be contacted for most admin tasks.
  • Updates sometimes introduce unwanted instabilities.
  • The documentation and examples use cases are still being written and need to be expanded.
SAP Data Intelligence is suitable for large scale commercial machine learning applications where hundreds or thousands of similar but unique processes must be independently monitored, for scenarios that must run automatically and repeatedly without data scientist involvement, and for scenarios where data is continuously collected. It is less appropriate for specialized data science projects with a fixed data set that will not be repeated.

SAP Data Intelligence has been used specifically within my department as a means of predicting certain costs of a claim. This has been an on-going project taking data from an OCR engine which reads incoming documents passing details to a variety of databases and SAP in order to predict those claims as possibly fraudulent claims or high value claims and pass this information to different departments via report for them to "keep an eye on."
  • Easy to pick up.
  • Tools for data cleansing.
  • Able to use existing learning models from the business.
  • Operates on cloud.
  • Not made for working with others.
  • Debugging is needlessly complicated and obfuscates issues.
  • Documentation could use more examples to highlight points.
SAP DI has proved useful to us with its ability to pull from a variety of data sources and is well suited to this. It is also more than capable of cleansing out data without a great deal of issues. It is well suited to running a variety of different ML models including the use of python and R. It is not so well suited to large masses of data and can do with more support around complex ML models.

SAP Data Intelligence is used for multiple use cases:
- Data is integrated from different source systems, which is then analysed first. After the analysis data is transformed and harmonized.
- Further, machine learning algorithms are modeled in SAP Data Intelligence and run on the data set.
- What is more, the SAP Data Intelligence environment interacts with different on premise systems and the results of the machine learning processes are sent back to the on premise systems.
  • Great machine learning capabilities
  • Many possibilities to connect source systems and interact with it
  • Operation on cloud reduces administration tasks to a minimum
  • Great Governance capabilities
  • Still fairly new product
Well suited for connecting various source systems, especially SAP systems, to SAP Data Intelligence and work with the data. Many possibilities to use machine learning algorithms. Fully managed on cloud.

We have used [SAP] Data Intelligence for internal learning purposes in order to build up know-how within our team. For this purpose, we have re-implemented an existing showcase using [SAP] Data Intelligence.
  • Provides lots of standard operators and default pipelines
  • Good Python notebook integration for data discovery
  • Graphical UI to develop pipelines reduce amount of code written
  • Better documentation with examples of how to use connectors (i.e. what input/output must look like)
  • Debugging functionality required to understand where pipelines fail and how data looks at that point
  • SAP libraries (e.g. python hana_ml) should be STANDARD and pre-installed to avoid dockerfiles and other workarounds
  • Dockerfile execution takes long times without giving a status where it is failing/held up
  • HANA Read/Write Table operator throws TLS errors which are unlikely when HANA connection generally works
I believe [SAP] Data Intelligence is well suited for scenarios where data sits both in SAP systems as well as in additional files or other databases and needs to be integrated for joint purposes. Due to the large amount of standard operators, this can be done quite nicely. Also, [SAP] Data Intelligence integrates well with open source technologies such as Python, which makes this tool interesting for both DWH developers and Data Scientists as these two worlds are brought together.
